WOOHOO....I SURVIVED my first Fryers Town....!!

WOOHOO....I've been out in the Hard Rubbish today where I found of all things a RICKSHAW....I came home, cleaned & organised my junk, made dinner & was busy sitting in front of the telly feeling quite smug about the days activities when I thought....HOLLY CRAP I HAVEN'T BLOGGED FOR 12 DAYS....So here I am with my Fryers Town update AND pictures of my rickshaw....hahahahah...!!!

But first....a BIG SLOPPY THANKS to my mate Sue at VRS for mentioning me on her blog....I'm chuffed to have this brilliant Junker link me.... :o) !!

Okay.....Wednesday 20th January, Mr SVJ & I loaded up a 3 tonne truck & my van with a years worth of Shabby Vintage Junk & headed off to Fryers Town where I'd managed to secure a stall at the largest Antique Fair in the country....I must admit to feeling somewhat overwhelmed when I looked at all my 'stuff' when it came out of the truck....!!!

The three pics below were taken just after we'd unloaded....Once my knees stopped knocking that is.....hahahahaha....You see, over the year I'd stored stuff at Gran's in her garage, a storage unit & inside our home so I'd never actually seen all my junk in the ONE PLACE like that....I had a LOT of stuff....!!

Once we'd unpacked Mr SVJ put the two tents up & helped lay the carpet (YES we had lovely vintage floral carpet compliments of the Hard Rubbish to help keep the dust that Fryers Town is FAMOUS for at bay...!!!) & then he high tailed it out of there....!!

Just as I'd finished setting up my side of the stall, the lovely Callie arrived & we arranged her tables before heading off for the night to our cabin at the Castlemaine Gardens Caravan Park....!

The next two & half days were FULL ON for the both of us as we worked our stall....We met so many lovely people, both buyers & stall holders & had an absolute BALL....That being said it was bloody hard work.....Early starts, LOTS of physical activity & dust....Did I mention Fryers Town is FAMOUS for it's dust....hahahaha.....Many a vistitor to our stall remarked on how clean & tidy our 'place' was....We had a broom AND a feather duster on hand & they BOTH got a good work out...!

That's Callie below (in black) arranging her stunning Vintage Costume Jewellery & our neighbour Leah who specialised in YUMMY Vintage Clothing & accessories.

The pair of us were SO busy we hardly managed to escape long enought to get to the loo let alone take the time to check out the other vendors goodies....!! I did manage to score this GORGEOUS hand made OOAK knecklace from the lovely Rebecca though when she visited Callie to sort through her miscellaneous jewellery pieces. .I LOVE it so much I bought a vintage dress form in Castlemaine AFTER Fryers Town to display it on....!!

We were also lucky enough to have this lovely puss visit us....I was SMITTEN & so ENVIOUS of the owner who has obviously been doing a GREAT job of socialising her little one....I wish I could take Baxter & Harley out with me like this...!!!

I really enjoyed my time in Fryers Town, it was such a RELEASE from the pressures of work & the 'everyday'....I CAN'T wait for next year....There is SO MUCH to do between now & then though & now I'm back in blogland I'll be sure & update my blog frequently just in case someone out there is interested in what this Aussie Junker is up to....!!!

Cheers,

Tamarah :o)

Flat out like a lizard drinkin'....!

A quaint Aussie expression for 'FREAKIN busy'.....!!!! Mr SVJ & I leave for Fryers Town Thursday morning so we're in FULL SWING here....!!

I had an annual leave day yesterday & was busy finishing off six pieces of furniture....No pics at the moment due to overcast conditions but if the planets are aligned when I arrive home this evening I'll add some to this post.....!

Must fly....STILL a few chores to take care of before I leave for work....!!!!!

Cheers,
Tamarah

How I LOVE me some Hard Rubbish.....!

A migraine last week saw me out of action Thursday, Friday & part of Saturday....Needless to say, there wasn't a whole lotta productivity goin on at my place....!

With the clanging in my head having subsided to a dull roar, Saturday afternoon saw me heading off to the HR (aka Hard Rubbish/curbside collection).

While there was nothing in this pile that appealed to me, I had to take a pic as it NEVER ceases to amaze me the perfectly USABLE stuff people throw away out of sheer laziness......The area that I took these pics has not one but FOUR op shops (thrift stores) within a 3km drive....I mean come on people.....Anyway.....I HOPE someone else made use of this pile....!!

Pots & pans In PERFECT nick.....!

The seat for the bike was lying next to it & the tyres were 'HARD as' so no issues there....!

Terracotta pots....!

Some lovely fabric, an ottoman, wicker basket, kettle, lovely wooden table.....etc....!!!

These Britannica Encyclopedias would have cost a fortune & I'm sure the information contained within would still be quite a valuable resource for school children who are not fortunate enough to have a computer at home....!!

This was one of my FAVE piles....Just LOVE the rusty cast iron stand with it's chippy white paint....If you look to the left of the stand you'll see a box of spanners....Inside that box was the SWEETEST little shoe last...BOTH of these finds came home with me....!!

Busy busy busy....!

I rescued this 1950's kitchen table from the side of the road almost 7 years ago covered in oil & grease. I removed the shabby old laminate & metal trim, sanded the top & scrubbed the base with sugar soap to reveal a really lovely, solid shabby vintage table.

Last night I thought I'd freshen it up so I sanded it back again, applied a couple of coats of 'antique walnut' stain & three coats of polyurethane & now it's ready for Friars Town....!

Ornament maintenance

Each year after Christmas when I'm putting away my decorations, I like to engage in a little 'deco reno'....! This year I had a selection of mercury ornaments where the colour had become 'tacky' so I spent some time gently removing the sticky residue.

If you haven't done this before all that's required is a little soap & water....Be gentle though especially if your ornament has a broken pike....!

Kicking Vintage Goals....!

Part 1:

In hindsight.....Instead of getting up at 4.30am this morning I would have been better off sleeping in as there was next to NOTHING to get excited over at the market....!!

I did find a large box of Christmas decorations for which I parted company with $35.00 of my hard earned spondoolies when I was unable to convince the seller I only needed a third of the items....OUCH....!

The first pic was taken AFTER I'd turfed the non vintage stuff & the second pic is what I was left with after a further edit....! *** Click on each pic for a better view ***

Never mind....There's always next Sunday.... :o) !!

Part 2

I've just spent 4 hours decluttering my office & I'm back with my 'after pics'....I still have a mountain of work to do tonight though as I conveniently moved my book & desk shelves from the office into the hall to stack 'smalls' on that I need to price & box for Friars Town....Oh & Mr SVJ just returned from our bedroom asking if he's sleeping on the couch tonight after discovering my 'not sure where to put this' pile on our bed....!!!

In my defense....All of the vintage suitcases from yesterdays pics have been priced (along with the items residing therin) & stacked neatly in the living area against the wall....Yayyyyyy....!!!

Just look at all that floor space...HEAVEN I tell you....The last two pics are of the hall way aka 'temporary smalls area'...!

Well it's almost 8.30pm & I only have an hour to go before I 'hit the hay' so I best get busy pricing some of those smalls....!

If anyone is reading this I hope YOU had a productive day too....!!!

Cheers, Tamarah
